Did I tell you.... ?

...I spent part of this week with both my grandsons?

Sunday I went to Fort Worth for a farewell party for a friend. Got to spend the night with L&J; then I babysat on Monday morning with Caleb. He's such a sweetie. Took his bottle, slept well, had a bath, got dressed and played. He's very vocal and learning to reach for toys and watch the lights on them, etc.

After Fort Worth I went to Waco to stay with K for a few days while hub was skiing. Got to spend good grandma-time with Ian. We played and wore each other out! He's learning so much vocabulary now and understands simple commands and responds appropriately.

Oh, it's fun to be a grandma!

...that hub has a new car, a new job, and a new office?

His truck lease was up. We opted for a car this time to save gas. He got a Ford Fusion and it's red! It's a pretty nice car although I wouldn't know how it handles because I haven't driven it yet. It's a standard transmission, too. I know how to drive one; it's just been years since I've had to.

He got a promotion at work after much studying, oral boards, and nervous, sleepless nights. Everyone at his office is glad for him...even the ones who also went up for the job. It's a little raise, a little prestige, etc....and a LOT more stuff to learn! He's been pretty much firefighting this week, but I know he'll get the hang of it soon.

His new office was a mess he inherited from the previous boss who just retired. Dark and dingy. Dirty. Messy. I persuaded the custodian to paint the walls with a fresh coat and to patch all the nail holes. He did it! We got a new executive chair for hub's desk, new side chairs for guests, new lamps, a rug, a table, some art work and plants. Now it looks inviting and like a place you wouldn't mind working in.

I'll try to post photos of the car and office soon.

...I'm going to be a parade judge this Saturday? What do I know about this? Nothing. Zippo. Nada.

I recently joined our Chamber of Commerce in order to expand my network of acquaintances and to get me out of the house. I volunteered in their office last week. They're really busy because this weekend begins our annual Dogwood Trails festival. So...the woman is desperate to find another judge for the parade. I tell her no. The other lady asks if I can come at 6 a.m. to help check in vendors. Uh....how do I judge a parade, I ask.

It seems there's a check sheet. I get to stand on the upper balcony of our famed Redlands Hotel to watch the whole parade. And someone else tallies the marks from the sheets. It's only two hours' duty. And it's NOT at 6 a.m.!

Afterwards, I will be a truly experienced parade judge. So if you have any parades in your neighbor, just let me know and I'll help you out. Unless it's at 6 a.m. !

...that the cleaners lost my sheets?

Before our cruise in February, I had taken a bunch of stuff to the laundry that I didn't have time to wash and iron. The day before we left, we picked up the order. The employee said the sheets weren't ready. Okay, no prob, we'll pick'em up when we return in 10 days.

We go back after the cruise to pick them up. They can't find them. Now, come on, it's sheets. Tan ones. Brand new. 400 thread count. Twin size. Two sets. How can you not see them?

Well, here it is six weeks later. The manager is apologetic but not forthcoming with any restitution until she talks to her owner.

I finally order two new sets and give her the receipt. Hopefully, this will soon be resolved. I don't want to have to change laundries. I like these people. I've been using them for 8 years. They have a great alterations lady whom I need from time to time.

AARGH!

Ian's first haircut

I know his mom has already addressed this event, but I thought the photos were so cute! So I made a slideshow of the ones I liked for your viewing pleasure! Click on the slideshow itself to read the captions.
